Adjustability Options for Big and Tall Office Chairs

Our big and tall office chairs are designed with advanced adjustability features to provide optimal comfort and support. Each chair we carry includes adjustable seat height, tilt mechanisms, armrests, and back angle tension control options, ensuring a tailored fit for your body and work style.

Seat Height and Tilt Adjustments

  • Seat Height: Our chairs feature pneumatic levers that elevate high enough for smooth height adjustments, allowing your feet to stay flat on the floor and maintaining proper hip positioning . Each seat is designed to prevent pressure behind your thighs for maximum comfort.
  • Tilt Mechanisms: Chairs with forward and backward tilt options help relieve spinal pressure during long sitting hours. Many models also include tilt tension controls, enabling you to adjust the recline speed and find your ideal movement support. This feature allows you to recline in free-float mode (rocking) or you can have the option to lock the seat pan in one preferred position.

Adjustable Armrests

  • Height and Width Adjustments: Our chairs feature armrests that adjust vertically and horizontally to align with your arms and shoulders, minimizing strain during computer use.
  • Pivot and Swivel Options: For added versatility, armrests are height adjustable and the armcaps offer swivel and/or lateral capabilities , ideal for multitasking. This ensures seamless support for a variety of tasks while maintaining comfort and proper alignment.

Back Angle and Tension Controls

  • Back Angle Adjustment: This is one feature that is missed on most chairs!   The backrest can be easily locked at various angles to support your working posture and reduce the low back strain.
  • Tension Control: Adjust the reclining force to suit your preferences with an easily accessible tension dial to align with your preferred reclining experience.
  • Lumbar Support: Many of our chairs feature adjustable lumbar support. The backrest has a patented infinite height adjustment that will raise and lower the backrest so the user can fit the lumbar cushion in the exact location. An additional custom air lumbar feature allows various pressure options for exact lumbar support, maintaining the natural curve of your spine and preventing back pain during extended sitting.

Setting Up Your Big and Tall Office Chair

Properly setting up your big and tall office chair ensures maximum comfort, support, and productivity. Follow these simple steps to customize your chair to fit your needs:

1. Measure the Seat Size

  • Find the seat that accommodates your leg length from hip-to-knee.  The seat pan should not dig into the back of your knees.  Additionally, the seat pan should not be too short.  Ideally you should have 2-3 fingers width between the front edge of the seat pan and back of the knees.  If you have greater than a hand size width of space between the seat pan and knees then it is too short.  Look for a longer seat pan or some chairs have an adjustable feature that allows the seat to extend out (seat slider)
  • The seat pan should be wide enough to accommodate the hips comfortably without squeezing. The user should look for approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space on either side of the hips for ease of movement and comfort.

  1. Adjust the Seat Height
  • Ensure your feet rest flat on the floor or make use of a footrest if needed.
  • Your knees should form a 90-degree angle to ensure your hips are at the proper alignment.
  • Use the chair’s pneumatic lever for smooth adjustments.

3. Check the Backrest

  • Align the backrest with the natural curve of your spine (lumbar curve).  Make sure there is adequate cushion support that matches the curvature of your low back.
  • Proper lumbar support helps maintain posture and prevents back pain.

4. Position the Armrests

  • Adjust armrests to keep your shoulders relaxed.
  • Your elbows should rest at a 90-degree angle for proper alignment.
  • Correct armrest positioning helps reduce neck and shoulder tension.

5. Confirm the Weight Capacity

  • Check the chair’s weight limit to ensure it supports your body safely.
  • Look for chairs with specified weight capacities for peace of mind.

5. Test Tilt and Recline Features

  • Adjust the tilt and recline to shift positions comfortably during the day.
  • Regular movement helps prevent stiffness and keeps you comfortable during long work hours.
